Alfredo sauce supplied by a ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ-based company was recalled after concerns of salmonella contamination.
According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration enforcement report, one of the ingredients, a dry milk powder, was possibly contaminated with salmonella, and the recall was designated by the FDA as its highest risk category, where there is a reasonable probability that the product can cause serious health issues.
Coffee Connextion Co. Inc., located on 216 E. Main St., voluntarily recalled the sauce after it was distributed to dozens of U.S. states. The recall was initiated on May 5.
The sauce is not one consumers would find on grocery shelves, rather it is primarily supplied to correctional and detention facilities throughout the country.
Salmonella poisoning usually sets in within three days of eating contaminated food. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Once symptoms appear, they can last between four to seven days, and children, elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible to severe infections.
Facilities which have any alfredo sauce produced by the Coffee Connextion Co., Inc. are asked to dispose of it.
