The Wilson County Retired Teachers Association (WCRTA) is pleased to announce that Duncan Sharp and Sam Wilson, seniors at Wilson Central High School, have been awarded a WCRTA Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year. At the May 7 WCRTA meeting, each student received a $1,500 check, made payable to their post-secondary school, to apply toward their post-secondary education expenses.
Duncan Sharp, son of Jeff and Cindy Sharp of Mount Juliet, will attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Sharp plans to major in Music Education.
Sam Wilson, son of Monty and Bethany Wilson of Mount Juliet, will attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Wilson plans to major in English with a minor in Secondary Education.
In addition to completing the WCRTA Scholarship Application Packet, scholarship recipients must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and must be graduating seniors enrolled in one of Wilson County’s public high schools: Green Hill High School, ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ High School, Mount Juliet High School, Watertown High School, and Wilson Central High School. Scholarship recipients (1) must enroll in a post-secondary public college or university in the state of Tennessee and (2) pursue a teaching career in elementary or secondary education through a teacher preparation program.
WCRTA members are aware of the need and expense of proper training to become career teachers. Therefore, members are pleased to make scholarships available to support these two students toward this goal.
WCRTA Scholarship Application Packets for 2026-27 will be provided to guidance counselors at each of Wilson County’s high schools prior to the first week of the 2026-27 school year.
