Wilson County has a new Director of Schools ready to step into the role July 1 after a contract was signed at a Board of Education special called meeting.
During the June 11 special called meeting, board members and new Director of Schools Travis Mayfield discussed the contract, which goals and evaluation metrics should be included and the length of contract.
Ultimately, the contract was approved by the board and signed by Mayfield, who said the direction of Wilson County Schools toward quality education of students remains strong. Mayfield served as the Deputy Director of Operations the past four years and was previously principal at Wilson Central High School for seven years.
鈥淚鈥檓 honored and excited to take on this position as the leader of our incredible district,鈥 Mayfield said. 鈥淚 look forward to officially getting started soon, and advancing our strong momentum with students even further. It鈥檚 a total team effort, and thankfully we have such a strong team throughout our entire district with amazing administrators, teachers and staffs.鈥
Jeff Luttrell, who has served as Director of Schools for five years, announced his retirement earlier this year, said he鈥檒l be available for Mayfield if any help or advice is needed. Luttrell鈥檚 last day as director is June 30.
