Macon County deputies arrested a man on animal cruelty charges after discovering a dog with a gunshot wound to the head.
According to the Macon County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, an investigation into an animal cruelty case began Friday, April 3 after receiving reports of a malnourished dog. When deputies found the dog, they found an open wound in its head.
The dog was transported to a veterinarian, who determined the wound was from a gunshot. MCSO said the dog was euthanized due to the severity of the injury and malnourishment.
The dog鈥檚 owner, Matthew West, 42, was arrested Tuesday, April 7, by MCSO and charged with aggravated animal cruelty. He was booked on a $30,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for May 6.
